1 Roadtrip, 1 Wedding, 1 Car Wreck, 1 Million Tears

So this past weekend was Sara's sister's wedding outside of Lufkin. Ryan and I set off for the road trip all by ourselves, no Hadley. This was his very very first time AWAY AWAY from us, he has spent the night before with grandparents but NEVER have we been HOURS AND HOURS away from him!!! This probably wasn't Aunt Emily's first time to have a bossy, messy, my way or the highway overnight guest but it was her first time to have Hadley overnight!
We started off late as usual (something happens when your name becomes Harris and as much as I hate to be late, it always seems to be the case) so we are late meeting up with Emily to drop off Hadley because my darling husband out and out refuses to take any toll roads however his GPS refuses to give directions that do not include toll roads and I'm to nervous about my dare devil being so far away to think about directions. (In the car on the way to Emily I realized I didn't make an in case of emergency letter, what if she has to take him to the ER!!! What kind of mother am I!!!) So we finally get to Aunt Emily and she has to TELL Hadley to give Mommy and Daddy hugs and kisses goodbye while Hadley just clings to her not wanting to let her go. I grab my sunglasses before my last kiss so that he won't see me cry as we say goodbye, and we are off on the open road.

Tensions are high at this point in the car, I am crying because for some crazy reason I already miss that little red head, and Ryan is still having it out with his GPS system because it is yet again instructing him to get on another Toll Road. We get to Taylor, Tx, have the most AMAZING BBQ in the world and everything seems to be ok again. That was until I realized we no longer had cell phone service on this drive and what if something happened to Hadley or to us and we were stranded in the middle of nowhere TX. Finally we arrive at the wedding, get everything set up, make it through the awkward part of mingling with lots of people that you don't know, start dancing and have the BEST time with Sara and her family and good old Ryan N.

After staying out until 2 am, we finally get to go back to the hotel and do what every married couple with a toddler only fantasizes about, SLEEP!!!! I got up at 7am, in my mind so that we can HURRY home to our little man, however any time I make a plan the universe likes to come along and mess it all up! For starters, Ryan insisted on stopping for breakfast (how dare he think of his stomach when our baby is probably crying for us about now, then we get in a car wreck in Centerville, TX, with a lovely Mexican shirtless preacher who just didn't see us stop and rear ended us (of course this takes HOURS to hash all out before we can get back on the road to our child whom I know has GOT to be crying for us by now).

Finally it is late afternoon and we are pulling up to Emily's house to get our baby that I just know is dying to come home with us and has been crying for Mommy and Daddy all day. WRONG!!! He had an absolute blast with Aunt Emily, she took him to the zoo, she has pretty friends that are girls who plays with him and bring him puppies and doughnuts, and let him play on the pool table and watch cartoons. Aunt Emily's house is fun, "I don't want to go home, it's boring", is the cry we hear after we load him up and head home to prepare ourselves for the routine of the week to come. One of these days our small child will appreciate our boring home!

  1. Sounds like every over night stay that Kenzie has! No wait make that anytime we go to anybodies house even when we don't leave her she never wants to go home. There have been several times leaving your house that she is screaming and crying for Lolly and Uncle Ryan and Hadley and telling me I am a mean mommy for taking her away from her Hadley! Oh, the joys of motherhood and sweet angelic toddlers.
